What about us, Europe?

“What About Us, Europe?” delves into questions of identity, belonging, and well-being across the continent. Building on the insights from previous Eurofabrique exhibitions in Paris and Cologne, the project invited European citizens to share their perspectives on cultural identity and unity through creative and interactive formats.
A standout feature was a participatory video series where individuals answered thought-provoking questions while peeling potatoes. These interactions, alongside other collected data, were analyzed and transformed into visual and written formats for print and digital dissemination.
The aim of the project was to analyzed the data gathered from these videos and other interactive components, transforming it into compelling visual and written formats. The outputs were prepared for print and online dissemination, reaching audiences across multiple media platforms.

Infographics

To analyze and present data effectively, we explored the art of infographics, filtering responses from the exhibitions by country, age group, keywords, and response time. This helped identify patterns and differences, which were visualized in various infographics. I focused on the question, “What is your connection to food and its origin?”, which led me to explore the pressing issue of food waste in Europe. My infographic took a playful and illustrated approach, incorporating sketched elements to convey the topic creatively.

As part of this, I designed an interactive infographic where readers could "remove" food waste reasons from a trashcan and explore additional reasons on a foldable page. This interactive element allowed users to engage directly with the topic and even add their own insights, acknowledging that food waste has countless causes beyond those listed.

Publication

Based on the insights and materials gathered throughout the project, we created a book that explores how Europeans perceive their continent and addresses the question of identity. This book not only presents the information collected in previous exhibitions through infographics but also includes additional content, such as the history of Europe and interviews with for example politicians and individuals with dual citizenship, offering perspectives on their sense of belonging to Europe. By bringing together these diverse viewpoints, the book serves as a comprehensive reflection on European identity, aiming to provide a deeper understanding of this complex topic.

Exhibition

As part of my project, I had the opportunity to participate in several international exhibitions and publications. My infographics were presented in a exhibition in Cologne as well as in the Scuola di non sapere exhibition, which was inaugurated on October 27, 2023, as part of the Porto Design Biennale. This traveling exhibition, previously shown in Milan, Florence, Rome, and Antananarivo, features contributions from over 35 international schools.Additionally, my work was published in an accompanying book that documents over 400 educational panels created by more than 800 students and researchers from around 30 schools worldwide. The publication emerged from a long-term research and design process that began with an initial seminar in Milan in September 2022 and continued through various exhibitions and workshops. The project’s unique focus on visual design and the concept of non-knowledge made it an interdisciplinary experiment that gained significant international attention.
